Pull Back

Scripture

1 Samuel 17:12-15 GNT

12 David was the son of Jesse, who was an Ephrathite from Bethlehem in Judah. Jesse had eight sons, and at the time Saul was king, he was already a very old man. 13 His three oldest sons had gone with Saul to war. The oldest was Eliab, the next was Abinadab, and the third was Shammah. 14 David was the youngest son, and while the three oldest brothers stayed with Saul, 15 David would go back to Bethlehem from time to time, to take care of his father's sheep.

Main Idea

We're should embrace the discipline of "pulling back" to live purposeful and fruitful lives in alignment with God's plan. By eliminating unnecessary distractions, commitments, and clutter from our lives, we can create space for God's word to have a more significant impact.

Grow your no so God can bless your yes.

Discussion Questions

  1. Reflecting on the Cheesecake Factory analogy, do you find that your life is sometimes filled with "menu options" that distract from your focus on God's purpose? Can you share an example from your own life?
  2. How do you discern what's truly God's best for your life amidst the many options and distractions?
  3. Have you ever experienced a season in your life when you had to "pull back" and simplify in order to focus on God's purpose? What was that like, and what lessons did you learn?

Summary

We have to learn the crucial lesson of focusing on God's purpose. Our life can be just like a cluttered Cheesecake Factory menu, so unless we say no to distractions than we won't be able to say yes to God's plan. This message urges us to simplify our lives, emphasizing that sometimes, less is more when it comes to fulfilling our God-given destiny.
