Wait to See

Scripture

Habakkuk 2:1-3 NLT and Romans 8:18 WYC

Habakkuk 2:1-3 NLT

1 I will climb up to my watchtower
    and stand at my guardpost.
There I will wait to see what the Lord says
and how he will answer my complaint.

2 Then the Lord said to me,

“Write the vision. Make it clear on tablets so that anyone can read it quickly.
3 This vision is for a future time.
It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled.
If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently,
for it will surely take place.
    It will not be delayed.

Romans 8:18 WYC

18 And I deem, that the passions of this time are not worthy of the glory to come, that shall be showed in us.

Main Idea

Understanding what God has planned for each of us individually and collectively as a church is important. It helps to align your daily actions in a way that will work towards that vision. God gives us visions or glimpses of what He wants to do in our lives to help lead or direct our steps. When we are all following whatever we think or our own plans we will falter but when we align on a vision together there will be a lasting impact in our lives, our church, and our broader community.

The best time to start a legacy is 50 years ago. The next best time is now!

Discussion Questions

  1. Give an example of a time when you were reluctant to understand a different perspective. What did you learn?
  2. What are you currently frustrated with that might need God's perspective?
  3. How do you plan on supporting Velocity's Vision for the future?

Summary

It is important to cast a vision for your family, your company, and especially your church. Sharing the why for an entity is critical to creating alignment and action toward your goals. In Habakkuk, God's instructions are to make the vision plain and put it in writing so it isn't left up to everyone's interpretation. Another instruction is to get a "higher" perspective.

God's Vocabulary is Vision

  • God will give you a vision of what could be but you have to look through His vantage point which is higher than yours and sees the bigger picture.

When you see what God has planned it can look or feel heavy but if it wasn't heavy you would think you can do it on your own. Creating a legacy starts with a weight and then leads to a vision of what God has planned. As we all align with that vision, it becomes possible as God works on our behalf when we put faith in action. It isn't always easy to see through God's perspective though. We must deliberately stop seeing things only from our perspective but instead, "climb up to my watchtower" to see things God's way.

God's vision for us may seem impossible, but with God all things are possible.
