2King David rose to his feet and said: “Listen to me, my fellow Israelites, my people. I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, for the footstool of our God, and I made plans to build it. 3But God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for my Name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood.’
There are times where you have a particular dream in your mind but ultimately it might not be God's exact plan for you. David dreamed of building a temple for God because of his love and devotion to God. In the end, it was God's plan for a temple to be built but it wasn't His plan for David to build it. Your dreams may be godly dreams and desires but it might not be God's plan to be carried it out in the way you imagine.
We need to turn over our desires and dreams to God for Him to carry it out the way He wants.
We can paint a picture in our mind of what we think we deserve and what we think God's plan should be for our lives. This can be hard to understand because what we are dreaming seems good and seems like what you think God would want for you. A disciple though needs to dream with open hands of surrender so God can craft the true vision for your life.
John 12:24-25 (NIV) explains that in order for a seed to come to life, it has to be entrusted to the ground so it can die and give life to something new and better. This is what King David had to do and sometimes we need to do that too. Give to God your dreams and let him be the one who shapes your steps and outcome. Sit in surrender to God and let Him take the lead.
Four takeaways:
Surrender your dreams to God.
