Into the Wild

Scripture

Isaiah 43:19

There is wilderness all around us. Life as a Christ-follower is not freeof challenges and trials. When we face those and walk n the wilderness as theIsraelites did in our key Scripture As we walk into the wild, God says He'sgoing to do a "new thing." He's going to stretch us and grow us inthe wilderness. He equips us for things to come. We all want new things, but wedon't like the process to get something new. In Luke 4:1 we see that even Jesuswas taken into the wild and tempted by satan. God showed up there. God willalways show up when we're in the wilderness. Sometimes we don't like thetiming or what He does when He shows up, but He will show up in the wild forus. The way He shows up isn't always the same. We can't just look for whatwe've seen before. Remember, He's doing a new thing.

Main Idea

The Bible shows us many examples of people wandering in the wilderness. The Israelites wandered for decades. We are no different. We find ourselves inthe wild over the course of our walk with Christ. What we learn in Scripturefrom all those examples of the wild is that God shows up. His presence canalways be found in the wilderness. He comes into the wild with us to strengthenus and show us new things, as Isiah says.  He will provide for us everything we need.

God wants to do a new thing. Don't be paralyzed by the past.

Discussion Questions

  1. Discuss a point in your life that you found yourself in the wilderness. Whether it’s personal challenges, trials you didn’t bring on yourself, or something else.
  2. What ways have you seen God show up in the wilderness?
  3. In what ways did God stretch you and provide for you during that time?

Take Action

  • complete a reading plan on the YouVersion Bible app about the experience of being in a spiritual wilderness. There is one called "Spiritual Wilderness" that looks at a couple different examples of God meeting people where they are in the wild. It's a 7-day study.
  • Pray about who to invite to church or your Group. Easter is an eye-opening time for a lot of people and they may be more willing and ready to start attending and seeking God again. Sometimes they just need an easy invitation.
