The Limits to a Loyal Heart

Scripture

2 Chronicles 16:9 NKJV

9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.

Main Idea

What is it that unlocks God's strength in your life and why is it sometimes we fail to follow through? Have you ever considered they are connected? 2 Chronicles 16 recounts the costly mistakes of King Asa. He started out as a good king, but he failed to finish well.

God is not impressed with your success, He's after your submission.

Discussion Questions

  1. What does having a "loyal heart" look like to you?
  2. Ps. Justin referred to unchecked anger as a consequence of resisting God's correction. How do you typically react when you receive correction or face difficult truths?
  3. The story of Asa highlights the idea of repeatedly resisting God's guidance. Are there areas in your life where you've been resistant to change or correction? How can you begin to embrace God's direction more openly?
  4. Reflect on the phrase "Don't limit what God is looking for." What do you think God is looking for in your life, and how can you align your heart and actions with His desires?

Summary

It is important to maintain a loyal heart in the face of life's challenges. We must align our lives with God's purpose and resist the temptation to prioritize worldly measures of success. Uncontrolled anger leads to danger, so we have to address deeper personal issues beneath our anger to make sure they don't lead us astray. In addition, it's important to recognize and embrace God's correction, rather than resist it. Overall, we must trust in God's strength, seek His guidance, and nurture a loyal heart to experience His transformative power in our lives.
