Conditioning Your Calling

Scripture

1 Corinthians 7:17-24 ESV

17 Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to them, and to which God has called them. This is my rule in all the churches.

21 Were you a bondservant when called? Do not be concerned about it. (But if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity.) 22 For the one who was called in the Lord as a bondservant is a freed person of the Lord. Likewise the one who was free when called is a bondservant of Christ.

24 So, brothers and sisters, in whatever condition each was called, there let them remain with God.

Main Idea

Have you ever wondered about your calling? It's more than a sense of purpose that leads us down a path for our lives. In fact, we have many callings. One word scripture uses to describe our calling is an assignment. We have an assignment for a place, for time, for a people and for a person.

You don't need different conditions, you just need greater commitment.

Discussion Questions

  1. What are some of the different callings God has placed on you?
  2. Have you ever thought of your calling as an assignment? Why or why not?
  3. Do you think you could serve God better if you had a different situation?
  4. Pastor Justin gave five ways we can begin to condition our calling. Which one do you need to develop? Which one resonates with you?

Summary

We don't need better conditions to serve God, we just need to condition our calling. There are five key ways we can begin to do this. By becoming:

  1. Passionate about the Purpose
  2. Committed to the Cause
  3. Responsible for the Results
  4. Fulfilled by the Work
  5. Grateful for the Opportunity

Take Action

  • Take some time to evaluate the different callings (assignments) God has given you with these five ways to condition your calling.
  • Read John 4 and meditate on how Jesus was filled by His assignment from God.
  • We're all called to be witnesses. Share this message with someone or invite them to come to church with you next week.
