Think Three

Scripture

1 Corinthians 13:1-3,8,13

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Main Idea

In 1 Corinthians 4 it says our first responsibility is to be faithful. Our faithfulness can be demonstrated in our willingness to support and encourage the generations behind us. By encouraging these people in their walk with Christ, we call share faith, hope, and love. Today, four individuals discussed their walks with Jesus, noting God always meets them exactly where they are and consistently and extravagantly offers grace, faithfulness, and love.

I’ve experienced God’s goodness. He has so much to show you. Places he wants to take you. Things He wants to manifest over your life and the lives of your loved ones. He knows the right time.

Discussion Questions

  1. What is the danger in treating God like Santa Claus - believing he owes us something?
  2. Are there times in your life when you have used prayer to manipulate God instead of trusting His will be done?
  3. What plans do/did you have for your life that haven't come true? How have/can you reconciled these disappointments with God's unconditional love for you?
  4. Where in your life have you seen evidence of God's faith, hope, and love?
  5. The Bible says our first responsibility is to be found faithful. In what ways, can you support the generations after you by showing God's love? Are their individuals you can reach out to directly and offer your assistance/prayer?

Summary

As we build God's kingdom, we need to build for three generations behind us. Today, four individuals discussed their walk with Jesus. Specifically, they addressed the three most important components of being a Christian: faith, hope, and love. Faith is our belief that God is able. Hope is our confidence in the future. Love is knowing we are not alone.
